Marketing an Ohio wedding venue: what couples search and what works
Ohio couples search by city as much as by state. What they type into Google, and how The Mohicans went from page 4 to first for “wedding venues in ohio”.

The short version
- Ohio weddings averaged $28,000 in 2025, $6,200 below the US average of $34,200. Columbus weddings averaged $30,000.
- Ohio couples search by city about as much as by state. “Wedding venues in ohio” and the searches for Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dayton and Toledo each get 1,000 to 10,000 searches a month.
- The statewide search can be won. The Mohicans Treehouse Resort and Wedding Venue went from page 4 of Google to first for “wedding venues in ohio”, as of October 2026.
- As of June 2026, Williams on the Lake ranks first for wedding and corporate searches in Medina, Brunswick, Wooster and Middleburg Heights. Its team credits a fast reply for more tours and bookings.
In this post
We work with 11 venues in Ohio, from a treehouse resort in Mohican country and venues in the Hocking Hills to a golf club outside Columbus and a lakeside venue in Medina. Two of them rank first on Google for searches that matter to any Ohio venue: The Mohicans for the statewide “wedding venues in ohio” (as of October 2026), and Williams on the Lake for wedding and corporate searches in Medina and three nearby towns (as of June 2026). This guide on Ohio wedding venue marketing sets their results next to what Ohio couples spend and what they search for.
What an Ohio wedding costs
Couples who married in Ohio in 2025 spent $28,000 on average on the ceremony and reception, according to The Knot’s 2026 Real Weddings Study. That is $6,200 under the US average of $34,200 and close to the Midwest average of $29,000. Columbus weddings came in a little higher, at $30,000.

What the venue fee covers varies a lot. Nationally, The Knot found the venue fee included rentals for 74% of couples, catering for 41% and alcohol for 37%, while 7% paid for the space alone. A couple comparing an all-inclusive package with a bare rental needs to see that difference on your site before the tour.
Ohio couples search by city
In New Jersey, the statewide searches get 10,000 to 100,000 a month and the town searches 1,000 to 10,000. Ohio is different: the statewide search and the searches for each big city all get 1,000 to 10,000 a month, in Google’s Keyword Planner for October 2025 to September 2026.
| Search | Searches a month |
|---|---|
| wedding venues in ohio | 1,000 to 10,000 a month |
| wedding places in ohio | 1,000 to 10,000 a month |
| wedding venues columbus ohio | 1,000 to 10,000 a month |
| reception venues columbus ohio | 1,000 to 10,000 a month |
| wedding venues cleveland ohio | 1,000 to 10,000 a month |
| wedding venues cincinnati ohio | 1,000 to 10,000 a month |
| wedding venues dayton ohio | 1,000 to 10,000 a month |
| wedding venues toledo ohio | 1,000 to 10,000 a month |
| hocking hills wedding venues | 100 to 1,000 a month |
| wedding venues northeast ohio | 100 to 1,000 a month |
| all inclusive wedding venues ohio | 100 to 1,000 a month |
| forest wedding venues ohio | 100 to 1,000 a month |
- Columbus has the most ways in. “Wedding venues columbus ohio”, “columbus wedding venues”, “reception venues columbus ohio” and “wedding reception venues columbus ohio” are four separate searches, each with 1,000 to 10,000 a month. Small, outdoor, cheap and all-inclusive Columbus venues each get their own searches below that.
- Regions are searched like towns. “Hocking hills wedding venues” and “wedding venues northeast ohio” each get 100 to 1,000 searches a month. Couples choosing a setting, not a city, search the region by name.
- Setting and value words. Outdoor, forest, all inclusive, inexpensive and best wedding venues in Ohio each get 100 to 1,000 searches a month.
The 11 Ohio venues we work with
Our Ohio clients are spread across the state rather than packed into one metro: three around Columbus, two each in the Hocking Hills area, Mohican country, northeast Ohio and Dayton. They include a barn, a golf and country club, a castle, a treehouse resort, an event and conference center and a caterer.

Every venue in Ohio can compete for a statewide search, and it reaches couples who have not picked a city yet. For a venue outside the big metros, being first there puts it in front of couples who would never have searched for Glenmont.
The Mohicans is also one of the three first-place rankings we show on our wedding venue SEO page, along with Juliette Chapel for “north georgia wedding venues” and The Foundry for “wedding venues new york”.
First in Medina and three nearby towns
Williams on the Lake, in Medina, ranks first for wedding and corporate searches in Medina, Brunswick, Wooster and Middleburg Heights. For “corporate meeting venue” in Medina it went from 4th to 1st. Both figures are as of June 2026.
Corporate meetings and holiday parties can fill weekdays and the months when fewer couples marry, and the people booking them search differently from couples. In Pennsylvania, Phoenixville Foundry ranks first on Google for corporate event searches, and 127 events were booked from its website inquiries between June 2024 and November 2026; the Phoenixville Foundry case study has the numbers.
“They say that our response time has been great, which has led to more tours and then the tours leading to bookings.”

What is working in Ohio
1. A page for every city you draw from
Because Ohio couples search by city, a venue near Columbus needs a page that answers “wedding venues columbus ohio”, and probably “reception venues columbus ohio” as well. A venue can also rank well beyond its own town: Williams on the Lake is first in Medina and in three towns around it, from Middleburg Heights, near Cleveland, to Wooster (as of June 2026). Each page needs content that belongs to that place: the drive from it, the guest counts you hold, photos, and the questions couples from there ask. Our Google Business Profile guide covers the map side of the same searches.
2. The statewide search, if you are a destination
For a venue in the Hocking Hills or Mohican country, “wedding venues in ohio” and the region’s own name (“hocking hills wedding venues”) are the searches to build toward, with pages about the setting, the cabins or rooms, and the weekend around the wedding.
3. Say what is included
“All inclusive wedding venues ohio” and “all inclusive wedding venues columbus ohio” are both searched every month, and Ohio couples spend less than the national average. A package page that lists what the price covers (catering, bar, rentals, coordinator, hours) answers that search directly, and it is what our venue websites and ads send couples to.
4. Corporate and social events
Give meeting planners and party hosts their own pages: capacities by room, AV, catering menus, parking, and weekday rates. Searches like “corporate meeting venue” are what those pages are for.
5. Answer fast, day or night
In Harvard Business Review’s study of web leads, companies that tried to reach a lead within an hour were nearly seven times as likely to qualify it as those that waited even an hour longer. Williams on the Lake’s team puts the same idea in their own words: a fast reply led to more tours, and the tours led to bookings. Our CRM and follow-up automation is built to send the first reply in minutes and keep following up until a couple books a tour or says no. To see what a few more tours a month would be worth, try our wedding venue ROI calculator.
We also looked at what New Jersey couples search and what is working at our 44 New Jersey venues.
